We Love: Sonia Delaunay

We’ve always been big fans of Sonia Delaunay–the abstract artist and colorist who applied her talents and theories to all areas of visual expression, including graphics, interiors, theater and film, fashion, and textiles–so we’re very excited by Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay, a major exhibition that opens March 18 at the Cooper-Hewitt and runs through June 5.

Delaunay continues to inspire, as this Chelsea loft by Bruce Bierman demonstrates. The living-dining room is filled with her color-saturated art: a large gouache-on-paper above the fireplace; a row of smaller works above the sofa;  and the shelving unit is a reproduction of one Delaunay designed in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouve in 1952. The painting above the dining table is only large work that’s not by her, though, like the other furnishings and objects in the space, it’s very much in her vibrant spirit.
